Accessibility
Apenheul – hospitable to all! Creating an optimal experience for everyone: that is what we work on every day! How we do this and which facilities can be found in Apenheul? Read all about it on this page.
Accessibility policy at Apenheul
Apenheul strives to be an accessible and hospitable park for all visitors, so that everyone is able to enjoy a special day between the primates. In collaboration with Joint projects we continuously work on improving the accessibility of our park for people with disabilities, so they can also enjoy the most fun and comfortable day out during their visit.
Accessibility and accompaniment
Visitors with disabilities are more than welcome in Apenheul. However, we do not offer a discount to either them or their company. We advise visitors with specific questions regarding accessibility to consult our website in advance and/or to contact us.
Service dog with handler
Apenheul is a very unique park where visitors enter areas with free-roaming primates. Therefore, dogs are not allowed inside our park to protect the wellbeing of both the animals and the visitors. To still offer visitors who are dependent on a service dog a chance to visit Apenheul, we offer the chance for them to bring in one handler with them for free. The visitor can purchase a regular entry ticket through our webshop and present this on the day itself, along with an official service dog certificate and proof of identity to grant a free entry for one handler.
Inclusion pact “Apenheul: Naturally hospitable”
On Wednesday the first of March 2023, 16 different stakeholders shook their hands together for an even more inclusive Apenheul. With this so-called inclusion pact “Apenheul: Naturally hospitable” we aim to deliver very practical solutions that quickly lead to better accessibility for all visitors with disabilities.
Facilities & Useful information
- You’ll find bathrooms at multiple locations in Apenheul: close to the entry/exit and near all our food & beverage outlets. Adapted bathrooms and rooms for nursery are also available at every location. The exact locations of all bathrooms can be found on the park map.
- Apenheul is, with exception of the tree-top walk (number 20 on the map), fully accessible for wheelchair users. Keep in mind that Apenheul can be quite a hilly location.
- Apenheul does not offer wheelchairs themselves, though at the entrance of Park Berg & Bos (opposite the Apenheul car park) there are a limited number of wheelchairs that can be borrowed after paying a € 1.00 deposit, which will be refunded after return of the wheelchair. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a reservation for a wheelchair.
- Only when you are in possession of a valid disability parking ticket (“gehandicaptenparkeerkaart”) you are able to park at one of the 12 extra spacious parking spots. These can be found at the front of car park P1 and P2 of the municipal parking lot, right across the entrance of Park Berg & Bos on the J.C. Wilslaan.
- Are you traveling by public transport? Bus 1 brings you from the Apeldoorn train station to bus stop Apenheul in around 15 minutes. Plan your trip in advance through 9292.nl or call 0900-9292 for travel advice (€ 0,90 p.m. max. € 18,-).
- Rather visit our park when it’s quieter? Be sure to come early in the day, or right at the end of the afternoon.
- Along the route, many places to rest and unwind can be found.
